Computer Artifact – 1988

I created Computer Artifact in 1988 using the original Macintosh computer and the intaglio printmaking process. I transferred a bitmap image to a metal plate and etched a metal substrate to develop the embossed print. In Computer Artifact, no ink or other substance was used to create the embossed image, leaving the viewer with a timeless artifact from the earliest days of computer graphics that will never fade.

Printed on 100% cotton BFK Rives 280 gsm archival paper.

A total of three prints exist, however, two exhibit lighter pulls on the press and are therefore of inferior quality.

Computer Artifact is a unique and one-of-a-kind convergence of early computer graphics and a traditional printing technique.
